Unleash Your Creative Process
Sketchbook Lab: Mixed Media Alchemy is a hands-on, process-driven studio experience where curiosity leads, rules dissolve, and your sketchbook becomes a fearless playground.
In this creative lab, you’ll use a multimedia/mixed media sketchbook then fill it week by week with layered marks, textures, and discoveries sparked by thoughtfully designed prompts. There’s no pressure to make finished pieces—this is about exploration, play, and developing your visual language.
Students are also encouraged to keep a second (possibly smaller) sketchbook for everyday drawing, note-taking, and spontaneous experimentation.
Real creative transformation doesn't happen in a single afternoon. Six weeks gives you time to experiment, make mistakes, find your rhythm, and develop techniques that stick. The accountability and community of showing up each week keeps you moving forward.
Snacks and refreshments (adult variety if you qualify!) available

Who should consider this class?
This class is perfect for anyone with some creative experience—whether you took art classes years ago, currently paint or draw occasionally, or consider yourself a dabbler. You don't need to be skilled, but some comfort with basic artmaking skills will help you get the most from the experience.
The focus isn't on learning how to draw, but on developing your visual voice, building a sustainable sketchbook habit, and exploring mixed media techniques in a relaxed and supportive environment. If you're excited to experiment and play—even if you feel "rusty"—you're ready for this class.
If you are an artist wanting to loosen up, work more intuitively, trust the process, play more and overthink less.- you'll love this class.
This is not a beginner drawing course. If you're brand new to art-making and need foundational instruction, consider starting with an intro drawing class first.
If you need to dust off some skills art fundamentals guidance is available, and students receive a 10+ page fundamentals reference handout—perfect for refreshers or filling in gaps you may have never learned. A resource you’ll return to again and again.

FAQs
What if I miss a week?
There are no make-ups available for a missed class, however I can spend a few minutes in your next class to catch you up.
How much homework is expected?
There are no mandatory assignments, but I encourage students to work in their sketchbooks between sessions—even just 10-15 minutes here and there makes a difference. Building a sustainable practice is part of the journey, so I'll share habit-building resources (books, podcasts, TedTalks) and the private Facebook group provides ongoing prompts and community support. The more you experiment outside of class, the more confident and fluid your work becomes. You'll get out what you put in. :-)
I have some questions about the class. How do I contact you?
