Karen Eide has been teaching her Encaustic Painting & Mixed  Media Lab workshops, with rave reviews, since 2005. Encaustic painting is an ancient process that uses molten, pigmented beeswax to create layered and luminous work. It is a wonderful stand-alone medium or one that is easily combined with a multitude of mediums and techniques. In this workshop, designed for all levels, you will learn classic encaustic painting processes as well as how to add oils, pastels, charcoal, graphite, watercolor, and collage, mixed media, texture, texture, and more texture! You will come away with enough information to safely set-up your encaustic studio, an equipment list, sources of supply, and a head full of new techniques and ideas. The only suggestion she ever gets about her classes is: “make them longer!”

SUPPLIES: Many supplies are included to enable you to experience this ancient art without making a huge investment. A list of required and optional materials is sent upon registration. If you would like to preview this list, please contact Karen Eide Studios. *Equipment and supplies will be available on a rental basis after the first class so you can work between class dates.

LOCATION: This workshop is held at Karen Eide Studios - McGuffey Art Center. Classes are limited to 2 people  and masks are required for the duration of the workshop. There is ample time for individual attention to your personal goals and pursuits.  There are many hotels and fabulous restaurants in the area that have re-opened -  as well as wineries, breweries, Monticello, the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection, and the Fralin Museum of Art at UVA. Please call ahead to these locations to find out revised hours due to COVID.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refund if canceled 14 days before class. Credit will be issued for another class/date if canceled less than 7 days.
