Ages: 18 & up

April 22nd • 10 - 4pm reg. closed

Linocut is a form of relief printmaking in which ink remains on the surface of your block while everything that is carved away remains the color of the paper or lets the fabric show through. In this fast-paced, fun workshop you will learn how to transfer your designs to rubber blocks and carve them for printing on paper and/or fabric. Note cards, tea towels, curtains, and yardage are just a few of the items you can choose to print with your carved blocks.

In the afternoon we begin the printing process on the substrates of your choice. Learn how to combine your blocks into original scenes and designs. Advanced students will have the opportunity to learn repeating patterns or work with multiple blocks and colors. You can experiment using a barren to transfer your ink from plate to paper or fabric as well as access to a Woodzilla press. You will leave with several printed items such as tea towels, and/or notecards.

Included material: 2 rubber blocks for carving, inks, 1 tea towel, printing paper, and 4 greeting card blanks and envelopes. Additional supplies are available for purchase. Required supply listy list sent at registration.

Students may bring in and print additional items to print (t-shirts, napkins, tea towels, yardage, gift wrap, etc.) as time allows. A resource list is provided with all supplies so you can carry on after the class ends.

MATERIALS: All materials and tools are provided. Just bring your imagination and a sketchbook or paper. An optional materials list is provided upon registration as ways for sourcing inspiration.

LOCATION: Karen Eide Studios - McGuffey Art Center - Studio 22B. Classes are limited to 6 people.  There is ample time for individual attention to your personal goals and pursuits.
