LOCATION: CHARLOTTESVILLE, VA

Come explore this ancient process and experience the magical art of enameling - fusing colorful, powdered glass to copper or fine silver at high temperatures with both kiln and torch firing.

This one-day workshop covers basic enameling principles and safety in addition to more advanced methods such as sifting, stenciling, sgraffito, counter-enameling, firing, and finishing. Creative approaches to layering transparent, opaque and opalescent enamels as well as liquid enamels are covered.

This is a fun, information-packed day where you come away with many pieces and a resource list to begin enameling explorations in your studio.

SKILL LEVELS: Basic metalsmithing skills such as sawing and dapping are helpful but not required. Guidance will be provided in these areas if needed. Although this class is geared for beginners, all levels are welcome - you can work at your own pace.

SUPPLIES: Many supplies are included to enable you to experience this craft without making a huge investment. A list of required and optional materials will be sent upon registration.

LOCATION: This workshop is held at Karen Eide Studios ~ a well-equipped metals, encaustic painting and mixed media space. Classes are small to allow time for individual attention to your personal goals and pursuits. The studio is within the Linen Building on the corner of East Market Street and Meade Avenue in Charlottesville, VA. There are many hotels and fabulous restaurants in the area as well as wineries, breweries, Monticello, the Kluge-Ruhe Aboriginal Art Collection and the Fralin Museum of Art at UVA.

CANCELLATION POLICY: Full refund if cancelled 3 weeks before class date. Credit will be issued for another class/date if cancelled less than three weeks.
